French-born Elisabeth Kontomanou is a vocalist, composer, author and actress with seven albums to her credit. Born in France of Greek and Guinean parentage, who disappeared from her life, Kontomanou was brought up in an orphanage. She took to music from an early age and used to listen to a number of different genres on the radio. At 13 she was given an opportunity by a friend to record some R&B numbers.
Three years later she formed her first orchestra and then found inspiration from American jazz great, Carmen McRae. She moved to New York in the 1990's, spent time in Stockholm, and returned to New York where she is continuing her musical journey.
Over the years Kontomanou has performed around the globe with some of the biggest names in music, including Michel Legrand, Darryl Hall and Toots Thielemans.
